ORIGIN OF VASTU SHASTRA

In the Vedic literature 'VASTU' means appropriate land for making a house. That means a habitable place which helps you to live with more love, happiness & money. Literally VASTU means a suitable building for dwelling and SHASTRA means study.

Vastu Shastra is the ancient Indian science of architecture which acts as a guideline to designing your spaces in a way that enhances the positive energy.

The most powerful force on this Earth is nature. As nature only makes the world and even destroys it. Vastu uses natural forces to provide maximum safety and convenience to the people.

These natural forces keep moving regularly without a break:

Gravitational Force is the powerful force of attraction of earth by which it attracts the objects in the space towards itself For example, if a piece of thermocol and a piece of stone (of the same size) fall from the roof of a house, then the piece of stone will be attracted towards the earth more rapidly because earth attracts heavier objects towards it more rapidly. On the basis of this, the solid land has been considered more beneficial.

The main source of Earth’s energy is Sun. It is the centre of energy in the solar system. It keeps life moving on the earth by giving energy, heat and light by way of its solar radiations. Sun’s energy moves from East to West.

This powerful force also keeps moving in the whole universe constantly. Like other planets of the solar system, the earth also enhances its magnetic power indefinitely by moving on its plane and in its orbit. Our whole universe is a magnetic field. There are two poles of a magnet. Similarly, there are two poles of the earth also, i.e., the North Pole and the South Pole. The magnetic force keeps flowing between these two poles.

Importance ofPanchamahabhootas

All branches of knowledge related to philosophy, science and art which considers all those beings as living, including human beings, are made from the PANCHMAHABHUTAS. The word panchmahabhootas means the combination of 5 ELEMENTS. Hence, our body, mind and soul become energetic by the proper balance of these elements and become lazy by their imbalance. For efficient working it is very important to balance the elements of nature in any space.

According to Vastu, it is possible to rejuvenate life by using and balancing the five elements of nature in proper proportions and coordination.

Characteristics ofFive elements(Panchmahabhootas)

Just as these aspects are important for life so is their importance in Vastu. The study of Vastu is based on the theory of these five elements. In our life, we are never without them as each element plays an important role. In Vastu, there is a specific zone for all the elements. We arrange our space (house or workplace) according to them by balancing these 5 elements.

  • 1
    Water Element

The place for water is in the North, North-East and East

  • 2
    Fire Element

East, South-East and South are the zones of fire

  • 3
    Earth Element

South, South-West and West are the zones of earth

  • 4
    Air Element

West, North-West and North are the zones of air

  • 5
    Sky Element Brahmasthan

For the sky, Brahmasthan (centre of premises) has been decided

Knowledge of Direction:Basic of Vastu

Meaning- The first and foremost step in the process of Vastu knows the direction for space in order to study the property. Often people determine EAST by seeing the sunrise in the morning and in the same way they determine west by seeing the sunset. This method is not accurate to calculate the direction as the Sunrise time and its position changes slightly in the northern or southern positions. There is one another method; the pole star (Dhruvatara) always remains in the north direction.

The best and easiest way to determine the direction is with the help of a magnetic compass. In this instrument, there is a needle (on which there is a mark of red or any other colour) which always points towards the North, namely the magnetic North of the Earth.

The procedure to identify the direction

  • Stand in the centre of the property (Bhramsthan).
  • Hold the base of the compass flat in front of your chest.
  • The compass needle will float freely & point to the magnetic North. (Compass needle always points NORTH)

It is very important to learn to take the correct compass readings before any Vastu observations.
